Marvelous is Teaming up with Tencent for an Upcoming Story of Seasons Mobile Game

Marvelous announced a new Story of Seasons mobile game developed by Tencent. Japanese company Marvelous today announced a statement that it reached an agreement with Chinese company Tencent to create a Story of Seasons mobile game.

The statement states that Marvelous only authorizes Tencent to use the history of the seasons' license. The Story of Seasons mobile game development and publishing will all be handled by Tencent. Nothing else was revealed about the game for now. No release date estimate was published either.

Despite the popularity of mobile games, especially in Japan, and how many long-standing gaming franchises already have multiple mobile games, the Story of Seasons has never received a mobile game earlier. This is a first in the history of the franchise.

The story of the seasons, known as Bokujou Monogatari in Japan, is a farming simulation series that has been running since 1996, with over 33 games in total. It is currently the last major game in the series and directed by the series veteran Yoshimoto Hashifumi.

Spinoff farming + action RPG series, born from the Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, also returns in 2019 with a remaster of Rune Factory 4 on Switch and a brand new Rune Factory 5, also on Switch, scheduled for 2020 in Japan.

Meanwhile, the next console game in the Story of Seasons franchise will be a crossover with intergenerational anime phenomenon Doraemon. With the title, Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari, the game will start in Japan at Switch in 2019.
